That's
what Jesus did for us. He was our substitute. A Sobresaliente is a
substitute matador. He stands by, in the ring, un noticed behind a
wooden barrier in case the main matador runs into trouble; the kind
of trouble from which he cannot extricate himself. The Sobresaliente
is willing to give his life in order to save the life of the main
matador.
That's
what Jesus did for us. Thinking more highly of ourselves than we
ought, we abandoned God and went our own way. We broke a relationship
that we could not heal. Jesus, our Sobresaliente stepped in. He
sacrificed His life for ours. He died so that we might live. He not
only defeated satan and his plans for our destruction, Jesus made a
spectacle of satan and his rebellious hoard before all the powers of
heaven.
