“We do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen; for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2nd Corinthians 4:18

I find it tragic that atheists immerse their lives in what is temporary and reject, on principle that which is eternal.

  1. Ya well, I can say the same... you reject parts of reality because you immerse your life in the hope of eternal life, which is an illusion. We will die, and that's it. From my point of view, you are wasting it!

  2. I did not mean that you are wasting your life. It was a bad choice of words!

I think you are wasting opportunities to learn and acquire more knowledge regarding the real and fantastic world we live in. You are also wasting opportunities to use your own mind to come up with morality judgements based on empirical evidence and rationality. You chose simplicity and comfort over complexity and sometimes-hard-to-accept truth.

However, from what you explained, it seems to be only for the best in your case, so I am obviously not saying that you wasted the last 30 years of your life because you were a Christian. It's quite the opposite. You might have wasted your life if you had not been a Christian actually.

Also, just to be clear: some anti-religious people would say that you waste your life because of prayers and church attendance, just to name these two. I disagree completely with that. Some Star Trek fans who watch the shows over and over, dress up to go to conventions and react their favourites scenes are probably wasting more time than you on their "religion".
