Why Comment Moderation Is Wrong

I'm forever annoyed when I find comment moderation on a blog.
Here's why.
Comments allow viewers to see the true character of the person posting the comment.
For example, on my post “Petraeus and the Rules of Christianity” some atheist actually hacked into my blogger (I'm guessing Hump or one of his friends) and posted a comment under MY name, Thesauros, feigning a reply to my friend Leo, The Maryland Crustacean.
Sorry Leo – It's a pretty disgusting image – to a heterosexual at least – but it demonstrates the true character of those who oppose their Creator.
At any rate, while I don't appreciate having my blog hacked, I do enjoy the fact that you've tipped your hand and shown the true nature of atheists.

Your blog wasn't hacked. You were spoofed - and not understanding the difference probably allows you a healthy sense of persecution.

I do enjoy the fact that you've tipped your hand and shown the true nature of atheists
I know for a fact it was done by someone who calls himself a Christian.

    ---

In any case, you never really explained why comment moderation is wrong. Myself, I deal with a person (online) sincerely and as honestly as possible. For example, "Whateverman" isn't my real name, but this is the only account I use - so if I'm applauded or reviled for anything, it's come from something I did while under this screen name.

Many theists prefer comment moderation. You're one of the rare few who doesn't, and to the extent you maintain this, I salute you for it.

  2. Omfg... the term goatse sounded familiar... now I remember why, painfully...

Your comment shows several errors though, and WEM beat me to it...

    1) No hacking too place obviously, it's easy to just use another name and add a link so that it looks like a profile. Hovering the mouse over the fake Thesauros shows a link to the same horrific website, not to a blogger profile...

    2) You cannot know if that was done by an Atheist or not.
(Perhaps WEM can explain why he thinks it must be a Christian?)

    3) ...and it does not matter anyway. It's a vile/juvenile/useless act that no one condemns. Your bigotry towards Atheists make you write the most stupid things.
Don't you remember this crazy dude who went by the pseudo DM? He was clearly not an Atheist as all he wanted, supposedly, was to prove Atheists wrong. He is simply insane and no one would claim that he is representative of Christians; that's simply wrong.

So, ya, in the end, this stupid post told us a lot more about you Rod than it tells us about Atheists in general. One person, an individual, did something stupid, and another person, an individual, also did something stupid. We don't know who the first is but the second one apparently is proud of being such a bigot...

  3. Oh one more thing. I am glad you don't have moderation but you can still delete posts you know!!

  4. Actually, I thought of yet one more thing!
I watched an episode of The Atheist Experience yesterday, and they had issues with some troll callers who keep changing his voice and make fake calls.
    (see http://blip.tv/the-atheist-experience-tv-show/atheist-experience-784-texas-freethought-convention-recap-6411434)

What's interesting is that Russel did the same mistake as you Rod and said that it goes to show what Theists do when they run out of argument. They resort to prank calls. He was not as ridiculous as you by pretending that it reveals the "true" nature of Theists but he was still wrong, and Matt corrected him.

Matt also added that it was most likely an Atheist. Why? Because the guy never seemed to have real arguments or beliefs to present. He just seemed to want to argue for the sake of arguing and getting attention. Matt thus think that it's probably a stupid Atheist that tries to troll for attention.

In other words, there is no need to be afraid to call out stupid people when they are part of your "gang". Bad actions are bad actions regardless of who make them. That's why I always insist that I find YOU, Rod, to be irrational, illogical and a bigot. I don't judge Christians as a whole. I judge you and comment on your ideas and false beliefs since this is what your blog is all about.

  5. Ya, you're probably right. The person who posted this is most likely a deeply committed follower of Jesus. It's my bigotry that made me think atheist. Pfft!

I know it's not a true hack. He just took advantage of no moderation which allowed him to use my name and url to turn my name into a hyperlink. And I know that using moderation isn't "wrong" as we generally understand the word. I should have said annoying or . . .

  6. It's my bigotry that made me think atheist. Pfft!

Nice desperate attempt to use ridicule in order to show how smart you think you are, and how dumb you think we are.

Once again, you missed the point. What your bigotry makes you do is write something like this:
    - it demonstrates the true character of those who oppose their Creator.
    - shown the true nature of atheists.
Whether the individual was an Atheist or not is irrelevant. It does not, in any way, reveal anything about the "true" nature of Atheists. You despise Atheists and have all sort of crazy ideas about them, hence you write these nonsensical comments. That's reality.

    I know it's not a true hack.
You wrote that "some atheist actually hacked into my blogger". What an hypocrite you are! Aren't you really that proud that you cannot ever concede that you make mistakes when it's a non-Christian that mentions it?
Who cares if you thought it was a real hack or not? You made a mistake. That's it...

  7. Hugo, I'm admitting to two "wording" errors.
    Hack and Wrong

To see some guys asshole starring me in the face got me a wee bit flustered. To see that someone had used my name to make an obscene post to someone I care about got me flustered.

I fired off a post that contained mistakes. Nothing pleases you.

I don't think you're dumb. Nor do I think atheists as a group are dumb, or at least no dumber than any other person or group.

    I could have said:
    - It demonstrates the true character of everyone and it shows the true nature of humans.

I emphasize atheists because they are the ones who are forever telling people how good they are. In fact they are "so good we don't need God."

Remember? That is the point of my atheist posts? To highlight the absurdities of atheism and those who adhere to it?

Get some rest. You sound tired.

  8. I fired off a post that contained mistakes. Nothing pleases you.

Look, you said that your account was hacked, then WEM and myself pointed out that it was not, to which you replied "I knew" instead of acknowledging your mistake.

It's good that you now acknowledge it was a mistake. It's not a question of "pleasing" me; it's just stating the truth. So I guess ya, when you acknowledge what's true instead of the fantasies found in your mind I am pleased.

Nor do I think atheists as a group are dumb, ...
I emphasize atheists because they are the ones who are forever telling people how good they are.

This is hilarious. Within a few lines you try to pretend that you are not a bigot only to come back with a gross generalization: exactly what a bigot does.

Oh sure, you also think that allll humans are bad and all that crap you always say, so it's not just about Atheists, but you cannot stop yourself from stating that Atheists are "this" or "that" due to your pre-conceptions and illogical assessments of reality due to certain unpleasant encounters you have on this fantastic virtual world we call the Internet.

Get some rest. You sound tired.

I think you are the one who is tired of me not being politically correct anymore. I call you a bigot when you are a bigot. Stupid when you are stupid. Illogical when you are illogical. But remember, that's not to insult you, it's just stating facts, right? That's one good lesson you taught me :)

By the way, it's ironic that you think I sound tired because writing on your blog is actually part of my relaxing on a quiet Saturday, and on top of it, I had one of my most relax week at work since a long time, so I could not be more calm already...

    Take care

  9. (Perhaps WEM can explain why he thinks it must be a Christian?)
Clearly, his tone inflection and use of language marks him as a Christian. I mean, surely my claim of who this person is - is at least as reliable as Rod's claim that it was an atheist.

    Right?

  10. Ah I see; this makes perfect sense now. Yes, your claim is at least as reliable as Rod's claim!

  11. I think it would be more accurate to say, I'm “the rare blogger who doesn't use comment moderation.”

It's our bias that makes Christians think that most atheists use comment moderation (and yes that's what it seems like to me - Hump the Atheist being an extreme example) and atheists to think that most Christians use it.

Personally, I think it's a control / power issue that most people struggle with.

As for evidence that the “hacker” was an enemy of his Creator or a follower of Jesus, I look at it the other way 'round. I think his choice of material shows he (and yes I doubt that it was a female though I might be wrong) was / is not of follower of Jesus and is someone who more likely takes offence at the whole notion of there being Someone to whom he will one day be accountable for his actions.

    Again, I might be wrong.
