It
makes me sigh, as each year Christian camps come in to deliver their
head count of saved souls.
Of course the forgiveness of our sins is
important.
Of course the salvation of our souls is important.
But
group think and peer pressure aside, a sinners prayer hardly registers
a blip on the big screen of becoming a disciple or follower of Jesus.
As
Charles Spurgeon said, “I am weary of this public bragging, this
counting of unhatched chickens, this exhibition of doubtful spoils.
Lay aside such numbering of the people, such idle pretence of
certifying in a half a minute that which will need the test of a
lifetime to prove.”
