Is Jehovah Just Like Daddy?

I know that you don’t know me
I could be living next to you
My lifestyle is respectable
I go to church on Sunday too
I have two sons and a daughter
And a house and car and wife
And I’m comfortable and satisfied
And happy with my life

Now my two boys are my pride and joy
And they both look just like me
And my daughter says the strangest things
But then again she’s only three
She popped one out last Tuesday night
And repeated it next day
You feel they look right through you
When you hear what children say

Is Jehovah just like daddy
Does he come home late at night
Does he love his little children
If we do everything just right
Does he go to church on Sunday
Cause my mommy wants him to
Is Jehovah just like daddy
Is he just like you?

This made me feel uneasy
But I brushed the thought aside
I was pretty good, even better than most
And besides I had my pride
But when I walked by her room late last night
Heard her praying in the dark
Her words of trust and innocence
Knocked the truth into my heart

God are you just like my daddy
Do you come home late at night
Do you love your little children
If they do everything just right
Do you go to church on Sunday
Cause your mommy wants you to
God are you just like my daddy
Is he just like you?

I didn’t feel so proud to hear aloud
The things my daughter said
And I didn’t care to be standing there
With those ideas in my head
I wasn’t all I thought I was
I’d fallen short some way
But I made a vow to change somehow
When I heard my daughter say

God if you’re my heavenly daddy
Like the preacher says you are
Does that mean, that you never pray
That you’d rather wash the car
Do you ever read the Bible
Or do you leave that to my mom
Do you care about the things you got
More than daddy’s little ones

And I cried to God to help me
Show my children who He is
Cause my daughter’s final question
Was to ask Jehovah this
God if you’re just like my daddy
Should I even talk to you
Or just pretend that you’re not there
And be like daddy too

Is Jehovah just like daddy
Does he come home late at night
Does he love his little children
If we do everything just right
Does he go to church on Sunday
Cause his mommy wants him to
Is Jehovah just like daddy
Is he just like you?
