Is that what it takes to get you to release your grip on life? Does God have to whack away on your knuckles with a stick to get you to let go of control? That’s what hardships are all about you know.
“God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.”
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
1st Peter 5:5-7,10
. Our pride and our ego cause us to take control of our lives.
. Our pride and lack of faith cause us to hold back portions of our lives from God.
. Our lack of trust causes us to think that the One who died for us, even while we were still His enemies doesn’t love us enough to provide for us.
It’s pretty silly.
Because running our lives on our own is bad for us, and because God only wants what is best for us, He allows life and the consequences of living in a fallen world to encourage us to let go and let Him be in charge.
By letting us experience the pain of doing things our way, God is saying, “Give up your supposed rights. Surrender your flawed plan. I know it’s hard. I know it’s counterintuitive. But do it. Humble yourselves under My plan and when you’ve learned to do that, I will lift you up and provide for you an abundant life.”
That’s what disappointments and hurts and painful memories are for.
. Letting go of doing things our way provides for greater intimacy with our Creator.
. Letting go forces us to trust Him even when we can’t see any positive outcome.
. Letting go causes us to stop manipulating other people to meet our goals.
. Letting go of control allows us to be done with resentments and bitterness.
. Letting go allows the Holy Spirit to release His power in us so that we can rejoice in our suffering, sickness, rejection and lack of approval from others.
Only the humble are able to trust God enough to do this.
Only the prideful cling to this life on earth.
Knowing that God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble should surely be enough to help us make the correct choice and save our knuckles.

Excellent post Thesauros! It is indeed the hardest thing in the world to let go and completely trust God. At this present time I've just let go of a something I had been holding onto for the longest time. Yes it hurts, but I will endure it....Because God endured the cross for me. Be blessed!
