That’s Not My Job!

An atheist that hangs out here has told me that I have never presented evidence that is able to convince Him to convert to Christianity and he doubts that I ever will present such evidence.

Of course, he’s correct. Not only because it can’t be done, but also because That’s Not My Job.

It’s the Holy Spirit who convicts and He only convicts those who are destined for salvation.

For those who are perishing, all the evidence IN the universe and OF the universe isn’t enough and it never will be enough to convince them. Their eyes have been blinded and their ears have been made deaf so that they can receive exactly what they want - an eternity separated from their Creator.

For those who are destined to be saved, the simplest gospel message possible will be more than enough to trigger a hunger and thirst for Truth that will never be quenched this side of eternity. For those who are headed for heaven, only a single verse (sometimes the most innocuous verse) will open up for them God penetrating Truth.

That Truth will reveal the person’s true sinful condition and h/her desperate need for forgiveness.

That Truth will convince the person that s/he is loved and accepted by the greatest Love in the universe.

That Truth will convince that person that s/he has been freely forgiven.

You’re right Hugo. Like most other atheists, you couldn’t become a Christian even if you wanted to. It’s tragic that atheists find begging so repulsive because your Creator and mine says that if you seek Him with all your heart He will make Himself known to you. If you call out to Him for forgiveness, He will save you. But that requires humility and humility is anathema to Brights who would rather stand in hell than kneel in heaven.

Yes, it is your job because you're the one who believes in ghosts, one of which is Holy, and pretend to be able to communicate with it, or Him, sorry ;-)

It’s the Holy Spirit who convicts and He only convicts those who are destined for salvation.

It's one of your Calvinist days again?

Correct me if I am wrong: you are saying that the Holy Spirit decided in advance that some of us will not be convinced enough to believe, since God has the power to do so, and then decided that it was pointless to change our minds, which God could do as well?

In other words, God gave us free will, fine, but at the same time, because He knows each of us, He knew what would convince us or not, and then decided to put us in a world where we would not be convinced.

(Please, don't reply that the evidence is there because it contradicts what I just said, and see below...)

Failed mind reading. Actually, it's borderline lying because I repeatedly told you that it's silly to think that someone like me refuses to believe in spite of evidence. I am NOT lying, I am simply not convinced and the things you tell me to believe (yes, you) do not match with reality.

Which raises an interesting question: Do you think there is something we can call an objective reality? A follow-up side question would be: do you believe that facts are objective?

If you say 'no' then nothing makes sense. You cannot even use the logical absolutes to build logical statements!

For those who are destined to be saved, the simplest gospel message possible will be more than enough to trigger a hunger and thirst for Truth that will never be quenched this side of eternity. It makes sense, but the problem is that God, according to the story, made us all different and made us all grew up in different parts of the world, in different contexts and with different opinion and level of intelligence. So, again, according to what you just said, the logical thing would be that each person should be given the appropriate reasons to believe.

Yet, it is not the case. What we see is a bunch of people, the ones who you say are easily convinced, claim that others should believe too... because it's so true for them.

Secular morality can agree with that...

That Truth will convince the person that s/he is loved and accepted by the greatest Love in the universe.

Of course it must feel good to believe that you are loved by the creator of the universe... when you believe such creator exists. To me, it's just pointless. What I find fascinating are things that you have no grasp of, and don't care about.

That Truth will convince that person that s/he has been freely forgiven.

Isn't better to be forgiven by the people you hurt, or to forgive yourself when you realize you did something wrong but decided to try to improve? It's never perfect but it's real, tangible, and make everybody feel better. But again, I asked you more than once if you had asked for forgiveness to the people you hurt and you never replied. I guess I have my answer...

Fail mind reading again... Nobody is stupid enough to actually believe that God exists, yet choose to reject him. When you hear people say that they would prefer to stand in hell than kneel in heaven, that's either a figure of speech, or somebody lying.

The figure of speech makes sense because it's basically showing the absurdity of Heaven. If we were to live eternally in Heaven, how could we ever feel great thinking that most of humanity is in Hell? That's the point... but you don't care about it because you are incapable of analyzing how (some) others think.

    Cheers!

  3. Interesting thought I just got while watching videos.

If it's not your job to prove your religion, then I will show links to what is my "religion".

VST - The New VLT Survey Telescope

I cannot wait to see more of these! The resolution on the camera is so great that you can see entire globular clusters in high resolution! It will help ease the pain of having to wait for the John Webb space telescope that was delayed :(
