Because
God loves us, we can know that if circumstances in our lives are
humbling us, humbling is exactly what we needed.
If
circumstances in our lives are breaking our dependency on things and
on money and on status “symbols,” then breaking that hold is
exactly what was needed.
Remember:
God breaks our dependence on money
and on things, NOT by giving us more than we need (We already have
that), but by removing some or all of what we already have.
Almost
nothing detracts us from accomplishing the task of loving our husband
/ wife or neighbour faster than the pursuit of money and possessions. The richer
we are, the less we give to those in need. Bigger houses, newer cars,
bigger bank accounts, nicer clothes - Pursuing newer, better, bigger,
faster always depletes our love & mercy for others.
It
is profoundly ironic that in the most overtly Christian nation on
earth, “In God We Trust” is written on the object of most
people's deepest love and dependence for security, status, worth and
sense of value – money.
