The 1.6% Solution

1.6% of the North American population says that since they a priori reject anything other than naturalism, it doesn’t matter if there is a lot of evidential support or absolutely no evidential support for what they believe. The conclusion will be the same, i.e. - Naturalism is how LIFE came from inanimate and inorganic gases and that’s all there is to it.

From time to time, someone in this subset says something like, “When it comes to how specified, formulated, coded instructions (1,000 volumes worth) came to be in the first replicating cell, the answer is, “I don’t know.””

That sounds like honesty but at best, this is only a half-truth. What these people really mean is, “I don’t know the details of how this vast quantity of information came to be in place by natural means, but by natural means and natural means ONLY it most surely came about.”

There isn’t anything, nor has there ever been anything but intelligence responsible for the production and design of specified, complex, formulated coded information. Nevertheless, this 1.6% of the population says that the first replicating cell is the lone exception to this rule. These people weren’t there to see it, but they know that’s how it happened. It’s what their faith system requires.

Even though these people say that without observation and verification nothing can be believed, believe they do, with faith every bit as fervent and devout as any evangelical Christian.

These people must maintain this implausible position or their belief system will collapse.

This is what they’re like. It’s how they think.

  2. Well, separating the belief from the believer is difficult. I try to point out to absurdity of atheism, but naturally it’s going to come across as saying something negative about the holder of the ism. You might be a very nice person. Your belief system, your world-view, your faith system is incoherent, illogical, absurd.

  5. Mak..."The conclusion will be the same, i.e. - Naturalism is how LIFE came from inanimate and inorganic gases and that’s all there is to it."

No Mak you misjudge me by saying this. This is not at all how i think.I have come to no absolute total conclusion of how life on earth came to be.

So far i only know this, i happen to (see) evolution in progress all around me.I happen to (not see) any evidence of anything supernatural happening.

Does this mean i then totally discount possibility of supernatural? ...No it doesnt ..not at all

Im just not interested in being involved in guesswork and jumping to conclusions and asserting ideas of God-/s ,without (seeing) enough evidence for good reason.

Mak you yourself know the grave danger of this type of faithful guesswork right ? ..Remember Har Magiddo ? ...Remember places like Johnstown? ....Remember bombers who kill with faith and suggested promise of blessings in a suggested afterlife, that arose out of guess work and faith?

Evolution is not just a belief Mak, its a actual happening thats easily seen happening all around us ...Your drugs you use for cures are evolving Mak...The cars you drive...Your pets have all evolved from their distant ancestors Mak....Depending on whether its because of some pysical accident, abuse or actually only to with genetics,it could be only a matter of evolution which decides if a child is evolved with or without problems of the mind.

Mak sometimes seems you judge non believers as a type of scum, simply for not agreeing with faith.

How can you ? be so harsh yet still tell us you follow Jesus who as far as i know was atleast said to be a little kind and understanding.

What should we think of this Mak.

The history book the bible records Jesus in fellowship and even eating in the houses of prostitutes.I cant see that would have ever happened had he thought these people were simply scum who were slow in thought and dull of mind.

Its these very things which help confirm the scientif type methods humans have always been using, testing whether any faith can be seen of any real special benefit that might set them apart from others...And so help prove possibility of some special validility...But after some lenghtly use of this scientific method spanning a period of thousands of years....We can conclude with some honesty ..NONE of these faith beliefs seem to be of any great specialist benefit.

All faithful make use of types of evolution almost every single day. They dont question evolution when using new drugs that cure newly evolved flues and viruses.

Atheists would be just as unlikely to question God-/s that they actually saw and experienced good evidence they existed.

But this experience they see to be lacking.

This doesnt mean non believers dont still look to see if possibly maybe evidence of the supernatural might someday arise.

Just because we dont know how the universe existed doesnt mean its right to guess it was some God ...Need i remind of of the danger involved in such guess work Mak? ..Need i remind you many ALREADY HAVE PERISHED THROUGH USE OF SUCH NASTY GUESSWORK .Need i remind you many still suffer!! ((every single day!!)) through being (born into) faiths of such SUPERSTITIOUS unbridled thoughtless guesswork.

And you Mak it seems, happen to have some (special dislike) of non believers stuck in the very depth of your heart?.

Yet on another post with regards to Har Magiddo ...In the end you try telling me you HONESTLY believe the problem is really to do with being human .

    Well i agree.

But then why do you seem to really possess some special dislike of people who only differ from you in the sense they dont have faith and are not interested in jumping to conclusions.

Evolution is not a matter of jumping to conclusions Mak ...We all see forms of evolution taking place around us every single day!

  6. So pointing out flaws and fallacies of your belief system means that I dislike YOU?

    Not at all.

If I disliked you I would help you to ignore the absurdities of your faith system, absurdities that, if Jesus is correct will cost you dearly.

Focussing on those who live out their faith poorly is not a good reason for rejecting what Jesus is saying to YOU.

  7. "Focussing on those who live out their faith poorly is not a good reason for rejecting what Jesus is saying to YOU. "

Focussing on your judgement of me, that thats all i must really actually be doing is not good enough reason either. But i will do my very best even as a human to overlook it.I already agreed with you we are human and make mistakes. This man Jesus is no enemy of mine.I like much about this man Jesus very much, including the fact he had understanding for people and their differences and downfalls.Though he disagreed with many people he was sombody who understood humans and their mistakes, and asked those who thought themselves perfect to feel welcome to start casting stones.

Atleast with what you would call my world view, i have no need to close what ive said, with use of any threat.I need not follow in the footsteps of those from Har Magiddo, who im sure very likely also used threats on the people around them,to try and force the continued faith of human sacrifice of children.I need not revert to use of any threat to try to convert Mak to anything.I have not any need of even "suggesting" eternal condemnation for Mak for merely being human.

Maks faith condemns me to this.Maks faith also makes claims of being the result of some sort of love and understanding.

With even a little study of the faith and people of Har Magiddo and Christianity. It becomes plain to see they have something in common, tactics of fear .Fear that both tribes suggested was warrented.

With my world view thankfully i feel no need to condemn these people to any eternal suffering, for their mistakes made through being human.

So who then will be prepared to be the one to cast the first stone .Who`s world views "words" honestly matches best with some real honesty of "actions".

  8. I asked: Mak, why do you hate atheists?

Thesauros responded to me: Well, separating the belief from the believer is difficult. I try to point out to absurdity of atheism, but naturally it’s going to come across as saying something negative about the holder of the ism. You might be a very nice person. Your belief system, your world-view, your faith system is incoherent, illogical, absurd.

First off: I'm not an atheist. You should take time to consider, very carefully, why you assumed otherwise.

Second, criticism can be done without misrepresentation. Even if I concede that atheism is a belief system (which I most assuredly do not), you consistently generalize and mischaracterize atheists. If your criticisms are valid, there's no logical or efficacious reason to do this.

I've seen your posts here and at Ray Comfort's, and you consistently demonize atheists, independent of any criticism you may have. This is clearly a form of hatred: animosity, bigotry, angst, etc.

So I'll ask the same question in a slightly different manner: why do you misrepresent those you wish to criticize?

  9. My posts at Ray Comfort's blog. I only remember writing something there once and it was years ago.

Misrepresent? That's not a term that I would use.

  10. Whether you'd use it or not is immaterial, because it's the correct word to use. You generalize and hold up straw men as being indicative of the beliefs and practices of hundreds of thousands of people.

    Why do you do this?

  11. You're not going to answer the question, are you...

Honesty is something a parent is supposed to instill in his children, Mak. I can only hope that you're more honest with them than you are with the people you wish to criticize...
