Store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven

“No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service!”

Stores used to have signs like that in their front windows. Dress right or you don’t get in. A simple concept really. Yet, when the same concept is applied to a different locale, atheists cannot comprehend what’s being said.

God says, as long as you are attached to, or as long as you are wearing your sin nature, you will not be allowed to enter heaven.

An equally simple concept?

Not if you’re an atheist. If you’re an atheist a cloud of confusion washes over you. A blank stare, like a cow watching a train go by comes across your face. A type of conscious snooze settles in.

“You mean I have to be as good as I can be?”

“Nope. How good you are has nothing to do with it.”

“You mean, um - what’s that again?”

“As long as you are still wearing your sin nature, the one you were born with, you will not be allowed to enter heaven. Jesus says that we have to be reborn, or born again with a new nature or else entry into heaven is not allowed.”

“Then God must not be all loving or He would just let me in.”

“It doesn’t have anything to do with love. It’s a spiritual law / reality. It’s the way the universe is set up.
Sin nature removed, you’re in.
Sin nature still present, you’re not in.”

“Then God must not be all powerful or He could let me in.”

“It doesn’t have anything to do with power or the lack thereof. It’s a spiritual law / reality. It’s the way the universe is set up.
Sin nature removed, you’re in.
Sin nature still present, you’re not in.”

“So what do I have to do?”

“You don’t do anything. You simply accept what Jesus has already done for you.”

“So - wait - what? I don’t get it.”

“I know. That’s the problem.”

“Why can’t I just be as good a person as I can and have that be good enough?”

“Because no one can be good enough to be good enough for heaven. By that standard you’d have to be perfect.”

“But nobody’s perfect.”

“Exactly!”

“So, I have to what? I don’t get it. Why couldn’t a loving God just let me in?”

“It’s a spiritual law / reality. It’s the way the universe is set up.
Sin nature removed, you’re in.
Sin nature still present, you’re not in.”

"I ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focussed and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is He is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of His work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!"
Paul - in his letter to the Ephesians 1:18
