“Not everyone who says, “Jesus is my Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will come to me on that day saying, “Lord, did we not kill police officers and bomb government buildings and poison water supplies in Your name?” and I will say to them, “I never knew you, you evil doers. Get away from Me.” And they will say, “Ah crap! I thought that by killing the very people who were in charge of making the country safe was doing Your will. So all those verses telling us to love our enemies and treating others better than ourselves and obeying the laws of the Government didn’t mean destroy the Government? Who knew?”

Heh. :-)
ReplyDeleteThere is a strong anti-Roman streak in the New Testament, but Jesus is arguably on the side of civil disobedience. It's a pretty poor reading of the Bible to come to the conclusion that violence is the proper response to political differences.
ReplyDeleteBut you can't deny that these crazy militia people are largely Right-wing Christian nuts...
It's sort of like this: most Christians aren't militants, but most American militants are Christians... or Muslim.
Wow Anon #9999,
ReplyDeleteRod did reply to your comment only 20 minutes later with a blog post! Impressive!
I hope you feel very special ;)
I'm glad to hear that you disagree with the crazy tactics of these militias.
