The hardest things about raising children with FASD is not being believed.
“Oh, all kids lose their stuff.”
“All kids forget their homework.”
“All kids tell lies.”
“All kids disobey.”
The implication being that if we were just better parents:
Our children wouldn’t tell five lies a day for no observable reason.
Our children wouldn’t lose 15 pieces of clothing a year - every year.
Our children wouldn’t find it impossible to learn from consequences.
Our children wouldn’t forget their school assignment 160 days out of 175,
The hardest part of raising Fetal Alcohol brain damaged children is not being believed.
