Who Do You Say That I Am? 4

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are loaded down with the burdens of life. Come to Me and I will give you rest for your souls.” Jesus said that He alone held the solution to the problems of the world. Jesus said that He was God’s representative on earth. The Gospel writers, those who had come to know Jesus best, either through close personal contact or through interviewing those who knew Him best described Jesus as God in human form. If these people are correct then it would seem foolish beyond compare to ignore Jesus. But why would He be described this way?

The first reason was found in how He taught.
The second reason was Jesus' demonstrated power and authority over sickness
The third reason was Jesus' demonstrated power and authority over nature.

The forth reason that those who knew Jesus best, confirmed His claim to be God was because of His demonstrated power over life and death.

What kind of person says to someone whose child has just died, “Don’t worry. Just place your trust in Me and your child will live.”

Think about that! Neither you nor I know anyone who would EVER make that kind of claim.

Based upon the accounts that he’d heard regarding Jesus’ ability to heal, a community leader, in fact the leader of a Synagogue went to Jesus and begged Him to come and heal his daughter. While speaking to Jesus someone came and told the man that it was too late. His daughter had died.

Jesus said to the girl’s father, “Don’t be afraid. Just place your trust in Me and your child will live.”

So certain were people that this girl had died that when Jesus went to the man’s home and said that they would see her alive, “They laughed at Him.” Wouldn’t you do the same?

Atheists still laugh at Jesus. They still call Him a fraud, a magician.

The writer says that at their laughter Jesus “Put them out of the house.” The Greek term used describes Jesus’ tone as the same used when He commanded evil spirits to leave. He was angry. "Get Out!"

Jesus went into the house and called the little girl back to life. Like us rousing someone from sleep, Jesus demonstrated the power to rouse people from death.

As would anyone in a situation like that, “They were completely astonished.” The people said, “Who is this man?”

How can we ignore someone like this?
