Who Do You Say That I Am? 2

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are loaded down with the burdens of life. Come to Me and I will give you rest for your souls.” Jesus said that He alone held the solution to the problems of the world. Jesus said that He was God’s representative on earth. The Gospel writers, those who had come to know Jesus best, either through close personal contact or through interviewing those who knew Him best described Jesus as God in human form. If these people are correct then it would seem foolish beyond compare to ignore Jesus. But why would He be described this way? Well, there are five main reasons.

The first was found in how He taught.

The second reason that those who knew Jesus best agreed with His claim to be God (“If you have seen Me, you have seen Father God.”) was Jesus demonstrated power and authority over sickness. With only the spoken word, Jesus cured diseases like leprosy, blindness and being crippled from birth. Leprosy at that time was much like AIDS is today. It was many times a death sentence and people shunned you just for having it. For someone to show the ability to make this disease disappear caused a great and understandable commotion, not just in the community but in the whole country. The four independent documents that we have describe Jesus healing many hundreds of people. Thirty specific accounts of healing are documented in the Gospels. Unlike today's healing hucksters these accounts all say that Jesus healed completely, instantly and totally.

The people’s logical response was, “Who is this man?”
