“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing of lasting value.” (John 15:5).
Anyone who knows anything about horticulture knows that the vine is the source of all life-giving nutrition for the branches. That is why Jesus said, “I Am the life.”
Without Jesus there is no life. Without Jesus people mistake distractions for life. Jesus is the only source of permanent joy, peace, satisfaction, even companionship.
Because of our fallen nature, we all look to the world’s distractions expecting that in them we’ll find life. We look to relationships, and money and education and physical appearance, and power or status, only to find that with time, each and every one of them will disappoint and fail to deliver on their promise to provide a life worth living.
Jesus - only Jesus - is the Way, the Truth and Life itself.
