Abstinence Education

Honestly? I don’t think people would have any problem with teaching kids that having sex before or outside of marriage is a bad idea if their Creator / Bible hadn’t said it first.

We know about the physical risks:
AIDS, cervical cancer from HPV infection, herpes simplex type 2, gonorrhea, syphilis and other STD’s, permanent injury and/or death during too-young childbirth, a higher incidence of birth defects during too-young gestation.

We know about the psychological risks:
Males use the promise of love (a lie) to get sex. Females use sex to just hear the false promise of love. Putting on layer after layer of emotional protection to lessen the hurtful impact of using others and being used by others. Lying to oneself to make abortions seem ok. Destruction of families from adultery. Violence of every type and variety due to jealousies triggered by adultery. Young women living in poverty, unable to finish their education.

We know the dangers of casual sex, but when saying “no” is tied so closely to moral restrictions, moral restrictions taught by Christianity, well, we’ll do the opposite if it will prove to ourselves that we are not controlled by anyone, let alone our Creator.

We know the dangers of casual sex, but when saying “no” is tied so closely to moral restrictions, moral restrictions taught by Christianity, well, we’ll even sell our children to the entertainment industry to be sexualised at a younger and younger age every year if it will prove to ourselves that we are not controlled by anyone, let alone our Creator.

  1. Sorry to comment on this post with an unrelated thing, but I wanted to share this video with you, because it's something we TOTALLY agree on: Islam, or the Qur'an I should say, was not divinely inspired.

This guy made incredible arguments against Islam, and here's his conclusion:

    Enjoy!

  2. You've inspired me to work on my long forgotten article on sexual morality.

Regarding your comments... abstinence education doesn't work. Simple as that. You're trying to argue against the installation of seat belts in cars by saying, "We sternly told everyone to follow all traffic laws."

  3. What I'm arguing against is not telling our children that abstinence is 100% effective in avoiding pregnancy, STD's, abortions, psychological scars etc.

I'm NOT saying teach ONLY abstinence. I'm saying that it shouldn't be left out. Secular society teaches that abstinence isn't even an option. People - kids AND adults need to know that it is.

Will simply giving people that information stop everyone from using others and being used by other people? Of course not. There are many, many factors at play. However, some will and do listen and that is why it shouldn't be left out.

To not tell people about abstinence is to put seat belts in vehicles but not tell anyone what they're for or how to use them. Or worse, to tell people that there is something wrong with them, that they're somehow defective or weak or, heaven forbid - a "goody goody" if they do use them.

    That is simply a lie.

There is a lot of pressure put on teens because of all the movies/videoclips they see, just to name that, but in school, when we get sexual education, the educator does insist on the fact that it's important to feel ready, not to put pressure on anyone, and to wait if for any reason one does not feel comfortable.

Well, I should have said that's what they 'used' to teach, because I know that they canceled that class that we had in high in Quebec before... it really sucks...

Anyway, don't confuse sexual education with society's pressure, which are two totally different things, and one way to fix the later is to actually encourage the former...
