The 1.6% Solution

1.6% of the North American population says that only natural causes were responsible for the beginning of our universe.

1.6% of the North American population says that they only believe in things for which there is evidence.

Natural forces cannot account for the Singularity because natural forces, indeed, time, space, matter and energy did not exist until the Singularity.

That means that something outside of and transcendent to nature, something supernatural caused the singularity.

1.6% of the North American population says that’s not true because - well they don’t know why it’s not true - they just say that it had to be a natural cause even though nothing natural existed.

When 1.6% of the North American population says that they only believe in things for which there is evidence, that is a flat out lie.

They’ll even believe in imaginary time AND imaginary space if they think it will get them out of having to deal with a universe with a beginning.

These people have to maintain this implausible position or their belief system will collapse.

This is what they’re like. This is how they think.

Nobody knows! Only religionist claim that there must, not could be, MUST be a non-natural cause to nature.

1.6% of the North American population says that they only believe in things for which there is evidence.

I do, ya. People who believe things for which there is no evidence have what we call... faith.

Natural forces cannot account for the Singularity because natural forces, indeed, time, space, matter and energy did not exist until the Singularity.

FAIL. Told you to review your concept of where the real world stops and the imaginary world begins...

That means that something outside of and transcendent to nature, something supernatural caused the singularity.

There is no 'that means that', it's only an assertion. Now prove it.

1.6% of the North American population says that’s not true because - well they don’t know why it’s not true - they just say that it had to be a natural cause even though nothing natural existed.

Nope, you claim that nothing natural existed, and then go on to prove whatever you wish to prove. You already steped into the imagination world when you talk of the singularity...

When 1.6% of the North American population says that they only believe in things for which there is evidence, that is a flat out lie.

Thanks for pointing that out, but could you please give an example of what someone like me, who does not believe in god, believes without evidence?

They’ll even believe in imaginary time AND imaginary space if they think it will get them out of having to deal with a universe with a beginning.

'Believe in imaginary...' is flawed. That is a lie. No matter what you put after 'imaginary', it cannot be one of my beliefs. What's imaginary is not real, and I do not believe that anything which is not real exists.

These people have to maintain this implausible position or their belief system will collapse.

You did not accurately described the position, as usual.

This is what they’re like. This is how they think.

    Nice try.

  2. Ok, I'm convinced that some supernatural entity caused the singularity (Big Bang). Now how do I decide which one did it? Isn't there just as much evidence for God having caused the singularity as there is for Shiva, Ra, Quetzalcoatl, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster to have caused it? I'm not leaning toward God because Genesis Chapter 1 says he created the earth before the sun, which is hard to reconcile with that "inerrant word of God" claim.

  3. You know, Brap, it's not that difficult to reason through this and eliminate possible contenders. If I thought that you had even the slightest flake of genuine interest I'd walk through it with you. As it is . . . mmm, nope. Not worth the efffort.

    Brap,
Not all parts of the Bible are to be taken litterealy. The Bible is a collection of books written over centuries by different people of different background.

What is true is the inherent nature of Creator God presented in the Bible, and most important of all is the fact that Jesus the Son was sent to Earth to be sacrificed for our sins so that we can have salvation.

Since we know that the historical fact of Jesus' resurection is true. We know that Jesus was in fact God in human form, confirming the crucial points above.

That's the shortest summary I can give you Brap; Deism + Jesus = Christianity. You can stop looking, you found your religion.

  5. Actually that's not the process Hugo but what you've said is accurate. Your response reminds me of the demons that would follow Jesus around making their hosts cry out to anyone who would listen, "This Jesus is the Son of the living God!"

I still don't understand why they would loudly declare the truth, as you have just done.

    Weird.

    Good impression, though.

I dunno about demons but, in my case, it's what we call representing another person's point of view accurately, something you struggle with, so perhaps that's why you find it weird? :P

I actually am interested in how one gets from A to B, since every time I get tired of discussing the Big Bang and just claim to be a Deist in order to move the discussion along, the discussion ends there.

You're right in your assessment that I don't buy your Big Bang theory just yet (no surprise). However, there may be some lurkers out there who only need a little convincing to get from A to B, and they could be worth the effort.

    Ya, right.
