Store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven

“A person must confront his own sinfulness in all its ravaging depths before he can enjoy the comforts of salvation”
Martin Luther.

It comes as a surprise to many to learn how very different Christianity is from other religions; at its core, it isn’t about morality, or philosophy, or self-fulfillment. Rather, it’s about grace and forgiveness and starting over.

Once again, Hugo is wrong. As I said in a post a couple days ago, about the work of the Holy Spirit, these changes are an inside job, one that is done by the Holy Spirit with cooperation from us, that by grace is given to us by the Holy Spirit.

  1. Hugo is wrong

Perhaps you disagree, but saying that I am wrong... really?

So you mean you actually have a way to convince me that something in this quote was wrong:

Be proud of your successes; you're the one who was able to change! Thanks to your belief in Jesus yes, but you're the believer, you're the one with ideas, you're the one who takes decisions that influence your life and the life of others. Keep up the good work!

    What is wrong?

    1) I sincerely believe that you should be proud of the changes you made to your life. It's just an opinion. You can disagree, but you cannot label it as wrong. It's like saying that somebody who likes vanilla ice cream is wrong because chocolate is so much better...

    2) You were able to change. Yes or no? Yes of course, you did change.

    3) Because you believe in Jesus you changed. Yes or no? You can claim that it's because some supernatural agent helped you, but you need to prove that, which you never do. Hence, I cannot be wrong here either... unless you have a way to prove that, but I know you won't, you don't like proving stuff... unfortunately you prefer to insult my intelligence and label me as slow of thought. Anyway, I digress...

    4) You have ideas, you take decisions, you influence your own life and others'. No? That would just be weird...

In other words, the only thing I can be wrong about is whether you were helped by the Holy Spirit or not. What I don't get is that it does not change anything. We see religious people all around the world doing good things in the name of their gods. Because you have a powerful immutable belief in one of those mystic entities, you cannot see your actions as being led just by yourself. Yet, the way you act is exactly the way anybody would act if they truly believe their religion. No matter how different yours is, no matter how special you find it, the bottom line is that you decide to act according to it. You did say that you "always" agree with God. So either you are a slave of God, deciding nothing, or you are simply acting like a human that follow what he thinks is right: the moral system taught by his religion and interpreted by himself and his fellow believers.

So, once again, you fail at logic, but remain a great person who wants to do what's best, what's good, what's pure, what's sinless, what's godly. You are a better person then before especially since you mentioned that you stopped hurting others since following Jesus. That threw me off my chair; I can only hope you never stop believing...
